Full Bathroom Renovation in Bartlett, TN: Rescuing and Rebuilding a Partially Demolished Space!
Phillips Property Solutions, LLC. jumped in after client partially demoed this bathroom and completed a comprehensive bathroom remodel in Bartlett, TN.
Demolition work included removal and off-site disposal of the vanity, countertop, mirror, vanity light, and all bathroom hardware such as towel bars and toilet paper holder. The existing toilet was disconnected and removed, and we tore out the tile tub surround down to the wall framing and hauled all debris away.
Plumbing demolition exposed the shower and tub plumbing walls so we could remove the existing valve, trim, supply lines, and drain components that needed to be reconfigured. All active water supply lines were capped and secured to leave a safe, shut condition for the rough-in phase. The subfloor beneath the vanity and toilet was removed where damaged, and we cut clean edges to allow proper future patching while checking floor framing for structural or moisture issues.
After cleanup, we addressed subfloor performance. Existing plywood was inspected for movement and squeaks and mechanically fastened to the joists with appropriate screws to tighten loose areas. We verified the subfloor was structurally sound and level within acceptable tolerances for tile.
We installed 1/2-inch cement Durock board over the prepared plywood subfloor, bedding panels on thin-set, staggering joints, and fastening panels per manufacturer recommendations. Seams were taped with alkali-resistant mesh and thin-set applied over seams to create a solid underlayment. Final preparation left the floor flat, secure, and ready for tile.
Rough-in plumbing for the shower was installed and the valve was secured to framing. The riser and shower connections were set for finished wall thickness. The system was pressure tested and left ready for inspection.
Electrical updates included correcting an existing junction box, installing a new outlet opposite the vanity, relocating a ceiling light above the shower and installing a wet-rated recessed fixture, and adding a GFCI outlet near the vanity. We also installed the client-provided brushed brass vanity light and prepared and installed a bathroom vent fan with ducting to the exterior.
On the walls, 1/2-inch cement backer board was applied to all tub surround walls, seams taped, then RedGard liquid waterproofing was applied to fully waterproof the surround and niches. Gorgeous, white subway tile was set full height from the tub to the ceiling, with two framed and waterproofed niches tiled inside. Schluter trim was installed at all exposed tile edges.
8-by-8 floor tile in a fun, geometric design was installed and grouted. All changes of plane were caulked and tile surfaces were cleaned and inspected for a uniform finish.
Drywall repairs and new installations were completed where needed, including taping, multiple coats of joint compound, sanding between coats, and final finishing to leave surfaces paint-ready. Shiplap boards were installed across the vanity wall with consistent nickel gap spacing and finished trim. Nail holes were filled and joints caulked for a clean look.
Deep green client chosen vanity with matte black faucet was installed with coordinating vanity mirror. The mirror and bathroom hardware were mounted, adjusted, and cleaned.
Final painting included primer as needed and two coats on ceilings, walls, and trim, plus touch-ups to ensure even coverage. All demolition debris was removed, the work area swept and left broom-clean, and a final inspection ensured all installed systems and finishes were secure and ready for use in this beautiful bathroom transformation in Bartlett, TN.
